NYSSenate Passes Legislation To Reduce Liability CostsBorne By Physicians

By a vote of 35-26, the NYS Senate passed legislation (S.7038, Flanagan) yesterdaywhich would reduce the trigger point for physician eligibility for the Excesscoverage from $1.3M/$3.9M to $1M/$3M. If enacted, this measure would result inan immediate 6% reduction in physician medical liability premiums. The Statewould remain responsible for underwriting the cost of the Excess program.

By a vote of 35-26, the NYS Senate passed legislation (S.7038, Flanagan) yesterday which would reduce the trigger point for physician eligibility for the Excess coverage from $1.3M/$3.9M to $1M/$3M. If enacted, this measure would result in an immediate 6% reduction in physician medical liability premiums. The State would remain responsible for underwriting the cost of the Excess program.

State-of-the-art Electronic Health Record Technology

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas R. Frieden today unveiled the City’s next-generation electronic health records (EHRs), already in use at more than 200 primary-care providers across the city that care for more than 200,000 New Yorkers. Amidst a growing national debate about how to fix the health care system, the City is on track to meet its goal of equipping more than 1,000 local health care providers – many of them practicing in the city’s poorest and sickest neighborhoods – with secure EHR systems by the end of the year, benefiting more than a million patients.
